Mexican Indigenous from Mitchoacan and Jalisco

Zooey Hatjes is Mexican Indigenous and Greek who grew up in the Bay Area. They are attending school to receive a masters in Professional Mental Health Counseling.

They have previously worked in the mental health field serving majority Black and Indigenous youth as a Peer Support Specialist.

They are learning through Indigenous frameworks
and methodologies within their education so they can better serve and mitigate harm that is often imposed on Indigenous peoples’. This includes steering away from pan
indigeneity that western institutions rely on.
